During the design process, Inspired Closets helped me come up with the designs for the closet that we needed to help organize our life.

PRESIDENT, INSPIRED CLOSETS VIRGINIA
Steve Dash
“The question I often get is, ‘How did you get into the closet business?’ It all started with Legos, Lincoln Logs, & Erector Sets. I was a retailer design director for a Fortune 500 company in the first half of my career. In 2007, when I was ready to go out on my own, I found the closet business to be very similar. It's also a lot of fun! When I’m not working with our clients and team, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, hiking, and watching live music and sports.
People inspire me: customers, our team, and my Inspired Closets colleagues around the country. I get to meet many fascinating people. Our team excels at upholding our values: trust, craftsmanship, professionalism, proactiveness, and efficiency. That means giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, focusing on quality, performing at their best, communicating promptly, and working smarter.”
At Inspired Closets Hampton Roads, we are proud to work with clients in Virginia Beach, and neighboring communities throughout the region. Penny O'Connor is an entrepreneur and design enthusiast who enjoys helping people create beautiful and functional everyday spaces that achieve their organizational goals. She believes that a well-designed closet can be life-changing, and her main goal is to ensure that every client loves their new space and has a fantastic experience working with Inspired Closets.
When asked, “What inspires you?” Penny shares that she loves helping people wake up to beautiful, functional spaces that bring calm, happiness, and confidence to their lives. Penny is also a Virginia Beach native and graduate of Virginia Tech. Outside of her design work, she enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, traveling, or relaxing at the beach with her husband, children, and friends.
Nancy came to Inspired Closets Central Virginia when we first opened in 2007 after relocating from Ohio to Richmond. With many years of experience in both interior design and home storage solutions, she uses her experience to help our customers build the perfect closet, pantry, garage, or entryway for their home and lifestyle. Nancy is also a past board member for the Richmond International Furnishings and Design Association.
When asked, “What inspires you?” Nancy tells us that she loves having conversations with clients before and after we help them organize their homes, hearing how much they love their new space. When she’s not designing, she enjoys painting and spending time with her family.
Originally from New Jersey, Karen has called Glen Allen home for nearly 15 years. She began at Inspired Closets as a member of our installation team and now works as our bookkeeper, making sure that every project goes off without a hitch. Karen loves working for a small local company with amazing clients and an exceptional team, and she enjoys bringing a creative touch to her work.
When asked, “What inspires you?” Karen tells us that she loves watching the process of creating a client’s dream space from start to finish. When she’s not at work, you can find Karen running in the wee hours of the morning, drawing, crafting, or spending time with her wonderful husband and two children.
Having worked in construction since high school, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge to all of his projects here at Inspired Closets. As our production manager, he is an expert at every step of the build and install process, but his true interest is in the carpentry of it all. He loves watching the parts and pieces of each project come together to produce beautiful, functional spaces for our clients.
When asked, “What inspires you?” Michael tells us that he loves knowing the difference an organized space is going to make in our clients’ lives. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, live music, and spending time with his family. He has a yellow lab named Barley and a cat named Grapes who make the most wonderful companions.
A Richmond transplant of more than 10 years, Jordan now calls Virginia home. With an interest in building and a remarkable attention to detail, he joined our Inspired Closets installation team where he works to get your new space built with as little interruption to your life as possible. As an installer, Jordan enjoys the opportunity to help our customers get organized and create a home they love.
When asked, “What inspires you?” Jordan says that he loves seeing how happy our customers are with their new space. Outside of work, he enjoys watching all kinds of sports and playing golf.
Nathanael started his professional career with a company that trained him to excel in customer service and operational efficiency. Driven by a passion for collaboration and shared goals, he found Inspired Closets.
When asked, “What inspires you?” Nathanael shares that he’s inspired by his commitment to fostering teamwork and achieving collective objectives. He takes pride in the work he does. Outside of Inspired Closets, Nathanael holds his faith, friends, and family close.
Jordan has lived all over as a military kid, but he planted roots in Virginia in 2016. He started in this industry as a CNC operator and shop tech at a small commercial cabinet installation company where he dipped his toes into closet installation and got hooked!
When asked, “What inspires you?” Jordan tells us he enjoys the newness of each project, seeing each unique design come to life, and revisiting existing customers who are tackling another space. In his spare time, Jordan enjoys bowling and spending time with his wife and two boys.
Before joining our team, Joe worked for a fine-trim carpentry company. In his current role at Inspired Closets, he likes that he gets to experience both sides of the job, from working in the warehouse and prepping all of the parts to installing the closets.
When asked, “What inspires you?” Joe shares that he is inspired by his dad, who has always set a good example for him. Joe says that he wouldn’t be where he is today without his dad. Outside of work, Joe enjoys spending time with friends and family, his two golden retrievers, Bentley and Luna, being outdoors, and playing soccer.
While John’s educational pursuits at Old Dominion University centered around the field of botany, he has always relished working with his hands. In 2022, John moved to the Richmond area from Portsmouth, Virginia, and Michael D’Alessandro (a former classmate of John’s from Hampden-Sydney and current Operations Manager of Inspired Closets Central Virginia) reached out to him about taking on a position in the warehouse. John had nearly fifteen years of previous warehouse experience, and he readily took the opportunity to learn how Inspired Closets operates.
When asked, “What inspires you?” John shares that the gratification of completing tasks he has set out to accomplish is a reward in itself. He loves that there is always work to be done in the shop, and there is always something new to learn. Outside of work, John spends as much time as possible beating feet on the bare bones of the Alleghenies and acquainting himself with the wildlife of Highland County. Before his wife stole it, John’s heart had always belonged to Virginia’s mountains. He believes that there is no song so sweet as a Highland breeze through the boughs of untamed trees.
